We got our hands on the new Easton Speed Series S2 today, which is part of the new Power Brigade Series of bats. The bat does not disappoint. It has a fantastic feel to it and looks great too.
Starting with the grip, you can tell that is a quality baseball bat. It really has a nice, soft feel and a good bit of tackiness to it. It’s one of the better feeling grips that I’ve felt.
The S2 has a really nice balanced feel to it as well. The swing weight really feels light and gives the you the feeling that you are getting a quicker swing through the baseball. Easton’s premise of the Speed series is just that. A lower Moment of Inertia translates into a quicker swing speed, which gives you more power. The XL is a little different in that it offers more mass for bigger, stronger players. More mass equals more power in its case.

Hey everybody! I’m Adam with ebaseballbatreviews.com and today I have the brand new Easton S2 bat that just came out last week. This is part of the new Power Brigade series from Easton sports.
Just to give you a little background on the Power Brigade series, its actually broken down into two different series of bats. You’ve got the Speed series, which is what I have with me today and you’ve also got the XL series. Now the speed series is actually made with the lowest MOI, which stands for moment of inertia, on the market. What this does is gives the bat a lighter swing weight, which allows you to bring the bat through the hitting zone a lot quicker then you would with a slower bat, which gives you more bat speed, which equals more power. That’s the big thing with the Power Brigade Series: trying to generate more power off the bat. Now, also they have the XL series. The XL series is actually made with a longer barrel, which gives it more mass and a bigger hitting zone. Again, the more mass equals more power. Two different series of bats, each made with different hitters in mind. You know, they are tailored for maybe somebody that’s a singles hitter. Maybe they want the Speed series. Now, somebody that’s a little bigger player and already has a faster swing speed, maybe the XL series is for you.
Each one of the series is broken down into three different bats. With the Speed series, there is the S1, which is a full composite bat. There is the S2, which I have here today. That is a two piece composite and then also an alloy barrel. And then there is the S3, which is actually a full alloy, one piece bat. The XL series is the same way. They have the XL1, XL2, XL3. The XL1 being the full composite. The XL2 has the composite handle and alloy barrel. The XL3 is a one piece, fully alloy bat.
Now, I have the S2 bat with me today. I’ll start with the grip. The grip is fantastic on this Power Brigade series of bats. It’s kind of a rubber grip. Feels very tacky, very soft, and has a great feel to it. Honestly, you wouldn’t feel like you’d need batting gloves. It’s got a really great feel to it. Moving up the bat, you can see with the S2 the advanced composite transition here into the alloy barrel. What Easton has put here is the Easton Connexion piece. This is actually a vibration reduction system. If you get jammed on an inside pitche and that kind of thing, this will help. This is actually made with a Scandium Alloy, the barrel that is. Got a real nice look to it. Nice feel. It’s going to be a little more durable than the S1 that is a full composite bat. Fantastic feel on the S2. Now, another thing to point out is that the Power Brigade line is BBCOR certified. So, very important for all you NCAA, NAIA, JUCO, and high school players. Starting with January 1st, you’re going to have to have the BBCOR certification.
All in all, six bats in the adult line. They also make a Speed series youth bat and an XL series youth bat. Those are drop 10s and they are legal in Little League play, so take a look at those. If you’d like more information, we’re going to have pictures of the S2 bat and that kind of thing on our site, ebaseballbatreviews.com. Stop by and check it out. Let us know what you think. We’ll see you next time. Thanks!
