Babe Ruth Rules

Babe Ruth Baseball has two different divisions with separate baseball bat rule designations.

13-15 Year Old Division
As of the 2011 season, Babe Ruth allows composite barrel bats that have been BESR (Bat Exit Speed Ratio) and ABI (Accelerated Break-In) tested and approved. These are the only composite barrel bats that can be used. These bats must be “drop 3” bats, which means the weight must not be more than three ounces less than the length of the bat. For example, a 30 inch bat can not be less than 27 ounces.

In addition, all aluminum/alloy barrel bats, regardless of handle material (composite, one piece), and having a barrel diameter of 2 ?” will be legal. With these bats, any drop is legal. So a one piece, aluminum bat can be 32 inches and 24 ounces. Whereas a composite bat can only be a “drop 3.”

All “drop 3” BBCOR bats are legal in this division.

16-18 Year Old Division
This division allows all aluminum/alloy barrel bats with a barrel diameter of 2 ?” and a “drop 3” weight. The only composite barrel bats that are allowed are those that have been BESR and ABI tested and approved.

All “drop 3” BBCOR bats are legal in this division.

Illegal Bat Rules

  • If the illegal bat is discovered before the batter completes the at-bat, the bat is removed and the at-bat continues.
  • A hitter who uses an illegal bat and puts the ball in play will be ruled out. Runners will not advance. This is considered an appeal play.
  • Any illegal bat discovered before play begins shall be ruled ineligible and not be allowed in play.
